Michael Petri: American Plumber Stories

Read his American Plumber story!

How did you get started in the plumbing trade?

It has been in my family for generations (since 1906). My father was a member of the New York City Police Department and also worked as a plumber at our family company with his father. I did not think I would do it for a career but I went to help my father and brother out, and fifty years later I am still here!

What do you like most about your work as a plumber?

Getting to be a larger part of the community. My father taught me that a plumber is one of the most important professions in society and it took me the gratification of serving my first client to understand what he meant. Over 5,000 clients later and that satisfaction still happens every day!

What advice do you have for the younger generation entering the plumbing trade?

Work hard and then work harder! They are called skilled trades for a reason. You will not just walk into the plumbing field and become an expert. It takes repetition and practice to grow!
