Richard Lauer: American Plumber Story
Meet Richard Lauer from RT Moore Mechanical Contractors.

Read his American Plumber story!
How did you get started in the plumbing trade?
Out of high school, my older brother working for a plumbing company asked me if I needed a job. I did and started as an apprentice and worked my way to journeyman. I have been in the plumbing trade since I was 18.
What do you like most about your work as a plumber?
Leaving a legacy behind of professionally installed plumbing. Knowing this will be around well after I am gone. Also passing on the knowledge as it was passed on to me. Allowing young men and women to make a good living in a trade I love, hoping one day they become the master plumber. It is like a brotherhood of sorts being a plumber.
Here at RT Moore, we provide in house and in the field training which allowed me to train young people with little or no skills on how to be plumbers and help them develop the positive attitude and hard work ethic it will take to make it. Plumbing has giving me the opportunity to grow allowing me to move from new construction, commercial, service and workforce development.
What advice do you have for the younger generation entering the plumbing trade?
Have determination, be humble, positive attitude and want to learn and work hard. Find a company that will train you to have it as a profession, not just to be a helper. Go above and beyond and earn the respect of your crew leader mentor.
