Ryan Thompson: American Plumber Stories

How did you get started in the plumbing trade?
I was working at a gas station while I rebuilt my life after a DUI. A regular customer asked what I was doing working there, so I told him my story, and he asked,
"What's next?"?
I replied i don't know...
Quote on quote, he said..
"Put your two weeks in and come work for me, show up to my house on Monday, and bring some boots. After five years, I'll sign you off, and you can have what I have."
I made a leap of faith and have never looked back.
Plumbing has saved my life and given me a sense of purpose. It has opened doors and opportunities that I didn't even think were possible.
Marc Mathis from The Rooter Guys helped guide me, and I will be forever grateful.
What do you like most about your work as a plumber?
Being of service
Critical thinking
Thinking outside the box
Putting my skills to the test
Being the hero for someone
Plumbing makes me a better human...
What advice do you have for the younger generation entering the plumbing trade?
Throw yourself in the water headfirst, stay hungry, become a sponge and soak up as much knowledge and skills as possible, and one day give it all back and teach that knowledge to the next younger guy, and keep this beautiful trade alive.
